Relocate 4 x Classrooms from Melville SHS (Western side of oval) to Melville SHS (Southern side of oval along Leach Hwy) Disconnect/ de complex/ shift and recommission including landscaping. Works commenced end of term 4, 2019 and completed during school holidays ready for term 1, 2020.

Success Primary School installation of classroom and shed whilst ensuring the building doesn't interrupt student learning

THE CHALLENGE


Removal and relocation of existing play equipment, remove and reinstall (nom) 14L/m of head pavers – 500mm wide for the installation of Pre-Primary Classroom. Include removal/disposal of haunching. Allow to remove 1200mm high fence from west side (front) of existing pre-primary. Fence is to be relocated to sides of existing and new pre-primary’s to make an enclosed area. Supply and install 1 x 16mm three-phase cable. Service to be taken from nearest distribution board located at Learning Centre 1 Block and connected to underside of new building at SWB via new underground conduit and through roof space. Connect sewer to new transportable pre-primary classroom including 3 x pans, 1 x kitchen sink, 1 x SS trough, 2 x hand-basins. Sewer to be connected into the existing sewer.

Working in a very corrosive area of the plant

THE CHALLENGE


The weak nitric acid bund was suffering from acid corrosion and repairs to the concrete were required to restore the bunds integrity. Following the completion of the repairs to the concrete bund, MACS proposed to apply a protective coating to extend the useful life of the bund and prevent future damage to the concrete. The full Scope of Works included removal of spalling and deteriorated concrete, cleansing of the entire bund area, treat repaired / replace reinforcement where required, form and rebuild the concrete bund as required, remove and replace grouting to the bases of the pipe stands and pump bases and then application of the protective coating system. Prior to works commencing MACS were required to develop and have approved by the client a Method statement that addressed the difficulties of the project, safety of the work crew, capture and disposal of contaminated scrubbing compound and interface with other crews working in close proximity. Working environment as in a very corrosive area of the plant, maintaining the integrity of the days progress was key, this required the works to be planned considering the interface of other works progressing within proximity and the use of extraction systems.

Design and Engineer 4 lots of stairs for embankment for pedestrian use.

THE CHALLENGE


Having a set budget by the client and achieving the most cost-efficient method. 4 sets of stairs were not uniform as the embankment was a different height in each location. Concrete placement for stabilising rocks was a challenge as shotcrete was going to use to much concrete so we used a boom pump to place and labour for with specially made booms to push the concrete around.

Cut and removal of 2 sections of asphalt

THE CHALLENGE


Cut and remove 2 sections of asphalt hard stand at different times 2 sections 2.5mtrs x 10mtrs x 200mm thick and replace with steel reinforced concrete. Remove excavated soils and waste from site. Coordinate with client to do 2 sections at different time, to allow half the area to remain operational.
